Dunfanaghy / Dún Fionnachaidh

Dunfanaghy is a popular holiday resort situated 7.5km north west of Creeslough. The name is derived from Dún Fionnachaidh, meaning 'the fort of the fair tribe'. In the 19th century Dunfanaghy Workhouse was the scene of horrific suffering during the Great Famine (An Gorta Mhór) of 1845-1850. Today part of the Workhouse building has been turned into an interpretative centre and an art gallery which are open to the public from March to October.

Tá Dún Fionnachaidh coitianta le turasoirí mar ionad saoire agus tá sé suite 7.5 ciliméadar in iar-thuaisceart de Chrioslach. Tagann an t-ainm ó Dhún Fionnachaidh agus ciallaíonn seo, fort of the fair tribe. Sa naoú aois déag tharla fulaingt millteanach ag suíomh Teach na mBocht, congarach ag an sraidbhaile. Tharla seo i rith An Ghórta Mhór (The Great Famine, 1845-1850). Inniu, tá páirt de fhoirgneamh Theach na mBocht tionntaithe isteach in ionad aistríthe agus gaileáraí ealáine atá foscailte don phobal ó mhí Mhárta go mí Deireadh Fómhair.©
