Fort Dún Rí Military Museum - Músaem Míleata Fort Dún Rí

Fort Dún Rí Military Museum is situated a few kilometres north-west of Buncrana overlooking Lough Swilly. The Fort dates from the Napoleonic Wars when it was built to allay fears that the French would invade Ireland then under British rule.
After the partition of Ireland the Fort was in the hands of the British Military who retained it until the 1930's when it became the property of the Irish Army.
The Museum has audio-visual displays and a large collection of artefacts depicting the history of coastal defence in Ireland dating back 180 years. The Museum is open Monday to Saturday from mid-June to mid-September.
