Greencastle / An Caisleán Nua
Greencastle is situated 4km north of Moville on the Inishowen peninsula. The village is named after the Norman Castle which was built by Richard de Burgo in 1305. The castle was captured by Edward Bruce in 1316 and retaken by the De Burgoes in 1318 until it fell into the hands of the O'Doherty's in 1333. Today the ruins of the Castle consists of a square keep and a double towered gatehouse.
