No doubt there will be bonfires go leor on the Hills of Donegal this coming new year's eve just as there has been for the past Millennia.

Tragedy on the Roads of Donegal
Tragedy struck the County roads over the Summer with the deaths of 12 people. Five young people died due to a horrific car crash between Fintown and Glenties in August and a further 3 people died outside Burt on October 4th. The other people died in individual accidents and many more were injured.

President Mc Aleese visited the Day Care Centre for the Elderly in Arranmore Island, the Irish Language Summer College at Machaire Rabhartaigh (near Bloody Foreland) and then travelled to Creevy to launch a sea angling boat. All in the one day! The President also attended a week long Irish Language Course at Oideas Gael. Chuaigh mé as Oideas Gael freisin agus bhí sé obair go crua orm.

180 Jobs lost in Derrybeg
Over 80 workers are to lose their jobs with the closure of the German owned Dia Norm radiator facotry in Derrybeg at the end of November. The news came just a week after the announcement that 70 people were to be laid off in Qualtrom Electronics and 30 in the Bio medical research plant in the same industrial estate at Derrybeg while 30 more jobs were lost at an electrical fencing plant at Falcarragh.

Gweebarra Bay Conservation Group
The GBCG has lodged a letter with the Dept. of the Marine and Natural Resources asking to see all of the Dept.'s records pertaining to the Granting of Aquaculture Licences in the Bay since last November under the Freedom of Information Act.
With the recent Granting of Licences in Lough Swilly, again against the wishes of local people, it appears that central government is determined to ruin the Donegal shoreline for the benefit of a few.
