Ramelton / Ráth Mealtain
Leagan Gaeilge Shíos
Ramelton is situated at the mouth of the Lennon river, 11km north of Letterkenny and 4km east of Milford on the western shores of Lough Swilly. This picturesque village is named from Ráth Mealtain, 'the fort of Mealtan', an early Irish chieftain, which is said to lie under the ruins of a medieval castle of the O'Donnells, the ruling family of West Donegal before their exile to Europe in 1607.
Ramelton was occupied by English and Scots Planters in the 17th century and is the site of the oldest Presbyterian Church in Ireland.

Tá Ráth Mealtain suite ag béal abhainn an Lennon, 11 ciliméadar ar thuaisceart Leitir Ceanainn agus 4 chiliméadar in oirthear de Bhaile na nGallógach, ar bhruach iarthara Loch Suilí. Is baile beag pictiúrtha é agus fuair sé a ainm ó Ráth Mealtain, (fort of Mealtan), a bhí ina thaoiseach fadó. Deirtear go bhfuil fothaigh de chaisleán meánaoiseach le clann Uí Dhomhnaill anseo. Bhí clann Uí Dhomhnaill i gceannas ar iarthar Dhún na nGall le míle bliain go dtí gur fhág siad le dhul go dtí na hEoraipa i 1607. Bhí coiliní Sasanach i gceannas ar Ráth Mealtain sa seachtú haois déag. Seo an suíomh fósta den teampall Preispitéireach is séine in Éirinn.©
